“It is color that drives Squires’ work
along with a keen eye for rhythm and inventive composition… Squires’ works are a pleasant walk through her mind’s eye where surprise balances the anticipated.” (“Excerpt from “The Ink”, Arts & Entertainment, Southern New Mexico & West Texas) Squires paints a wide range of subjects primarily in oil, but often in acrylic or watercolor.
Her paintings are punctuated with fresh color and loose brushstrokes that convey movement and energy. “The variety of my subject matter comes from sketches, memories and photographic notes collected in travels abroad, in Mexico, Canada and our own U.S. The light and color in the Southwest are so compelling, however, that the culture, landscape and people here invest my work in a profound way,” she attests. Squires has no sophisticated philosophy about her work. She paints the things that catch her eye – capturing moments in time - and hopes in the end to share them with others. “If what I produce conforms to some standard of excellence, that’s a bonus,” she says. |
